Make the best decision for you and your loved one based on preferences, like budget and ring style. No matter which stone you choose- a natural earth diamond, lab grown diamond or moissanite stone- it will sparkle in any setting and be sure to turn heads. An engagement ring is a special purchase and a true testament to your ever-lasting love, so you want one that will be cherished forever.

The Dazzling Difference

Moissanites - An Elegant Diamond Alternative

Moissanites, known as diamond alternatives, are great as a permanent gemstone or as a transitional diamond. Start your engagement off with a stunning moissanite, and have the option to upgrade to an Earth mined diamond or a lab grown diamond later on. To the naked eye, moissanite stones are almost identical to a traditional diamond, but at a much lower price point. If you care for more environmentally conscious purchases, moissanites are the perfect option; they are ethically made and conflict-free.

Natural Earth Mined Diamonds versus Lab Grown Diamonds

Icing On The Ring has carried lab grown diamonds for the past six years, making us extremely knowledgeable in the properties of these brilliant gemstones. The main difference between these gorgeous stones are the way they’re produced; lab grown diamonds are grown in a lab, while natural earth diamonds come directly from the earth, as both names suggest. The only way to produce a lab grown diamond is by using the material of an Earth mined diamond, making them almost the same. However, even though both diamonds are similar, lab diamonds cost 40-50% less than Earth diamonds. Though grown elsewhere, lab cultivated diamonds are still 100% real diamonds, and even have the 4C’s of a diamond: cut, color, clarity and carat. No matter what diamond you choose, it will have the Icing On The Ring guarantee of being a great one.

A 3.00 carat lab cultivated diamond is a G-color, meaning the diamond is nearly colorless. In comparison, a 3.00 carat Earth diamond is a J-color, falling slightly lower on the color scale, with a warmer hint of white. The lab cultivated diamond has a higher color grade, but comes at a lower cost. However, to the naked eye, these diamonds look exactly the same.
